I wanted to have a blog just to show off my quilts. They are all special to me and hopefully there will be many more to post here.

Mama's Quilt

I knew as soon as I saw this fabric that I had to make a quilt for Mama. Her colors. The fabric is by 3 Sisters for Moda Fabrics and is from the Wuthering Heights Collection. This was actually part of a kit....the squares came precut. Saved a little time I guess, but I don't mind the cutting. It was nice to have the colors picked out for me though. I enjoyed piecing it together.....

In the summer of 2006, Mama was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had one of her kidneys removed. There was a lot unknown and I started working furiously on the handquilting of her quilt. It had taken me a long time to decide what to do......couldn't come up with a design and was making the decision way harder than it needed to be. Finally I decided on a flower on every square....there are a lot of squares on that quilt. I stitched a cable along the outside border. The quilt was completed and sent to Mama for her 75th birthday in March 2007. She was so surprised and she loved it.

In September of 2008 she was diagnosed with bladder cancer and sent home with Hospice. When she became so ill my sister went to stay with her....she would often cover Mama with the quilt. It is a warm and cozy quilt. She passed away February 23, 2009. My sister has the quilt now....I am very thankful for the warmth it gave to Mama when she needed it the most......very thankful I gave her the quilt in time for her to enjoy it.
